She Promised Poem by Randy McClave

She Promised

She promised to be my girlfriend
She promised to be my life,
We would be one until the very end
As boyfriend, girlfriend, man and wife.
But, after those promises were made,
She betrayed.

She promised me that she wouldn't lie
She promised me that she wouldn't cheat,
Oaths she would keep and not deny
Me like a king, she promised to treat.
But, after the promises she strayed,
She betrayed.

She promised me when she borrowed
She promised every time to pay me back,
To me a debt would not ever be owed
As her clothes she did unpack.
Her bills and debts I then confidently paid,
She betrayed.

She was once always in my dreams
She was once in all of my desires,
Us together was always was the themes
But, she unfaithfully lit many other fires.
Memories of her will someday fade,
She betrayed.
