She Took Her Life Poem by Sahil Sharifdin Bhat

She Took Her Life

Rating: 5.0

Troilus was happy, strong and fair.

He knew not sorrow, he knew not despair.

His heart was pure, his spirit was bright.

He shone like a star in the darkest night.

But, then came Cresside, gorgeous and hot

And in her beauty, Troilus was caught.

The couple was happy, lovely and sweet

Before the evil Cresside began to cheat.

Her heart went wild, her eyes strayed,

She chased men like a loose maid.

Finally, she married an unloving rich man,

Leaving Troilus in deep agony and pain.

Cresside's bridal joys were soon blown,

She was dumped and left alone.

She lost her head and then blasphemed,

''God was cruel to her, '' She screamed.

God was angry and struck her with leprosy.

Everyone left her after she lost her beauty.

She began to live in a dirty street

Where she used to beg, sleep and eat.

Troilus passed by her one fateful day

And recognized her without any delay.

He was enjoying the days of prosperity

And took pity on her and gave her charity.

Then moved away from her like a light

He could not bear her miserable sight.

The kindness of Troilus made her eyes wet.

She said she deserved the fate she met.

Regretting why she had let him go.

'' Love is better than gold'' she came to know.

Troilus was good, while she was evil.

She called herself ''an agent of the devil''.

She took her life, to atone for her sins,

For leaving Troilus, for her foolish whims.

Her last words were '' if I am born again,

I will love only Troilus and no other man.''
