She Was Gone Poem by Randy McClave

She Was Gone

When she needed help I was always there
With all my love and my care,
I never, ever wore a different mask
When she needed help, all she had to do was to ask.
With sweat on my brow, or money in my pocket
She was always first in my thoughts, and on my docket,
I never wanted her to cry from worries or fears
Nor did I ever wanted her to hold onto tears.
Even with her many secrets and guilts that she kept
I even worried about her when she slept,
Many have said that I helped her out more than I should
My thoughts were, I would help her more if I only could.
I know that God is looking down upon me with a smile
Knowing for love and faith, I went that extra mile,
And when her name and reputation began to smirch
I proudly and happily took her to my church.
When she was hungry I gave her food
When she was in trouble I did not want her sued,
I bought her new clothes to replace the old
Then I gave her warmth, when she was cold.
The front door to my house was always unlocked
Whereas on her houses door I have knocked and knocked,
When I helped her with a smile she said we were a couple
With words for our relationship she was quite and supple.
I never believed or would say to her what she did owe
Happily I took her, here and there and wherever she wanted to go,
I helped her like the king protecting its cherishedpawn
But, when I needed help, I was forgotten and she was gone.
