Shocked Beyond Belief Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Shocked Beyond Belief

What is the World coming to?
All the crime and the lieing about it.
The hatred. Corruption and violence.
And the sex?
Everywhere it is.
Practically openly done in the streets.
Priests, preachers, politicians and teachers.
Leeching on school aged children.
As if vultures preying prepared to feast.
Where is the innocence these days.
Where are those wholesome values?
Those standards that use to exist.
I even saw a few nuns rapping on TV.
Still dressed in the habits.
I am telling you...
I am shocked.
Shocked beyond belief.

"Yeah.
Me too.
Oh.
When and if,
Your momentary visit with reality should end.
Do you mind checking the frig for me?
I think there's some leftover General Tso's chicken.
Also a few slices of pizza.
You didn't eat the rest of it, hopefully."

Food!
The World is in crisis mode.
And that's all you have on your mind?

"No.
Your being shocked beyond belief,
Reminds me of the high prices I saw the other day.
On neckbones.
NECKBONES!
You talk about shocking?
I couldn't believe it.
And I remember when they use to give that stuff away.
Now...
That's a crisis.
It's criminal and unjust."

You know...
It's people like you,
That makes this World the way it is.

"I don't deserve your praise.
If it wasn't for God,
My blessings to reveal you wouldn't notice.
And here I am,
Giving it up to donate done to volunteer."

Jesus!

"No.
Please.
You're embarrassing me.
It was merely coincidental.
I just noticed the prices.
Maybe I did suggest,
They should be lowered.
But that's all I did.
Nothing more."
