Mother and child signing.
I couldn’t stop staring - so
full of mystery and knowledge
of words unspoken.
The language of love
is never so poignant
as in such moments of revelation.
Tiny fingers fluttering at ducks
parading around the pond; eyes
wide, attentive. Then hand to heart
to eyes, and a grand sweeping gesture
to signify wonder and delight.
Mesmerized I gazed
as she lightly tapped the child’s cheek,
then took her hand and led her down
the path; leaving me to ponder why
I’d never forget that scene
and the look of love in a mother’s eyes.
