Silent Cry Poem by Amitava Sur

Silent Cry

Rating: 3.3

No sound no movement no sign of life in it now,
Alas, my bustling city is lying today as a dead python being shattered.

The city where I'm born and brought up,
By inhaling it's air
Being brewed in it's colorful cultural flavor,
I matured and did grow,
Very rightly I feel this darling city as it's known as the City of joy,
For it's rich culture and heritage it bears.

Quite an age old city is this,
Bearing long four centuries' colorful dossier behind,
With so many historic tattoos and engravings
On it's skin body and soul.

This city as I conceive it with my fond memories and contact,
It's truly a vibrating and a pulsating city indeed.
On any festival or joyous events -
It responds so colorfully with a life in it,
Irrespective of any religion or any rich and poor conflict.

This city of joy accommodates all colors, races, and creed.
Very generouslyrepresenting a mini world in deed,
Accommodating any color religion or any sect,
My city endures and digest all our maddening outburst of joy.
It enjoys our dancing dining and merrily roaming in it.

Century old this city had witnessed
Millions of rising hands and voices being raised,
For the cause of humans' freedom,
Preserving their rights and protesting anarchy on human race.

This historic city though witnessed
The brutal invaders' oppression with scars on it,
Still it came up and enjoyed -
Seeing it's people celebrating their victory over tyrant rule
And their exuberance in tasting the long dreamed freedom too.

But because of the untraceable and that killer enemy today,
Silently my city cries with a heavy heart today.
My this loved city is dumbstruck now
And turned to a barren grave yard only.
Vultures are flying in the city sky,
Some dogs' bark from a distant place
Makes this silent city more ghostly!
No festive, no game nor any agitation is witnessed on it!
There is no sign of any life at all
In it's artery or any vein.
A holocaust is prevailing upon
With this horrendous Corona enemy.

Hearing continued deaths from all around -
Life is on a stand still now,
Helplessly not knowing what will be the next?

But so long we're able to breathe we do live on hope
And that hope says and affirm us -
That surely we'll overcome this holocaust
And we'll smile and rise once again.

'But so long we're able to breathe we do live on hope And that hope says and affirm us - That surely we'll overcome this holocaust And we'll smile and rise once again.' - Thank you for ending the poem with this note of hope. We are passing through a dark phase, perhaps of the century. There will certainly be an end to it, but God only knows, at what cost!
