Silver Fern Poem by Ima Ryma

Silver Fern

I am a silver fern and be
A symbol of New Zealand pride,
For native people, Maori,
And Pakeha, folks from outside.
Endemic to New Zealand, I
Can grow up thirty feet or more,
With waving fronds as winds breeze by,
Beginning from just a small spore.
On forest path in the moonlight,
Illumination I display,
And give travelers an insight
Into how they might find their way.

For my nation I do my part.
I am New Zealander at heart.
