SILVER GOBLET Poem by Sigitas Parulskis

SILVER GOBLET

Jesus C.'s father would come home
drunk
and would hit his son with a heavy
silver goblet
across his obediently lowered head
shouting, I'll show you who is
the boss here, who is the ruler
of the world, I'll show you, and struck
with all his strength
paying no heed to the child's tears
and entreaties
father put down this goblet
