Singing Still Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Singing Still

Poetic you, filling my head with the dreams of
Yesteryears and I am the girl in a Tarzan movie
Fearless of elephants as I jump from tree to tree
I am the one who makes the call of come in peace
and feast at a table spread with fruits of
Love gathered coconuts and all things green to
Keep us strong

I yell and you smile and they come from miles and
Miles to listen to my midnight song
But I awaken before the first note
Leaves my throat so I sat up and wrote
A note to a lover I had pushed away
With promises to honor and obey
Because sometimes, life is just that way
