Social Security - Poem by Annmarie Fox

Social Security
By Annmarie Fox©

People put through degradation
Why do we put up with it as a nation?
Sitting around in rooms all day
Waiting for the money the social pay.
Up in the morning it starts at ten
Queue for a number and queue again
Talk to the officer tell them your name
Probing questions feeling the shame
Interviews over we have to wait
For money for food before it’s too la
