Soldiers We Will Remember Poem by Joe Moore

Soldiers We Will Remember

We can hear the diesel motors idling,
In this noise our minds our confiding.

For in the sound of this repetition,
Our soles rest on this lonely mission.

We are patrolling a bomb riddled route,
Where the presence of fear is no doubt.

Then the lead humvee is engulfed in fire,
A bomb exploded and the soldiers retire.

The patrol is called to a screeching halt,
We will find the one’s at fault!

At that moment bullets soar by,
So we release our wrath, till the terrorist lie.

Now we bring the departed home,
Under the flag of our own.

The soldiers are buried in their grave,
As Taps is heroically played.

These soldiers have given their all,
And deserve more than a name on a wall.

In our minds a place we should render,
So we can always commit to remember.
