something so beautiful
and something so near
a sunflower in full bloom
i can only touch
but must not cut,

someone so beautiful to
my eyes,
so sweet smelling to my
senses,
my heart beats to the
thousand drums in the
african desert,
someone i cannot kiss
i cannot even touch but
someone whom i always speak
with, savor with a stare,
imagine making love with,


always at a distance
to observe the required decency
of our worlds.
