Song: Tracking South From Heaven Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: Tracking South From Heaven

Rating: 5.0

I've heard your songs and I heed the words;
I saw them in your eyes.
It's been so long, it feels absurd.
Why am I so surprised?

I've crooned your tune, beneath the moon;
Below the darkened skies.
I swoon on goon as I read the runes,
On how love lives and dies.

Gotta keep on a-goin', keep on a-hoein',
Keep on a-blowin', the blues.
Gotta keep on a-lovin', keep on the southern
Track, with a dozen of cues.

I heard you crying in the night;
Your world was full of pain.
Your flag a'flyin' in the dim half-light:
Unfurled designs arcane.

Gotta keep on a-movin', keep on a-groovin',
Dancin' in the devil's cheap shoes.
Gotta keep on a-showin', that I'm not all knowin',
When the answers' on the pathway I choose.

I trod the road to your abode.
I drank your soda still.
Your Kool-Aid was the highest grade;
The last coda of your quill.

Gotta keep on a-rowin', on a slipstream gone a-flowin',
Keep on my rovin' river cruise.
Gotta keep on a-lovin', when deep in your coven,
Buffin' up your silken cloven hooves.

I've dug the ruins of your ancient site,
In the valleys of the king.
I've measured out your arcs of flight,
With my knots of string.

Gotta keep with the chosen, a satanic scent - ambrosian,
The banshees that still govern me as muse.
Gotta keep on a-sowin', the seeds that are a-growin',
In young minds inter-woven with the news.

Gotta keep from a-caviling, my petty thoughts a-blackening,
Every noble instinct I abuse.
Gotta keep from unraveling, my feelings that are baffling,
Traveling down the gravel avenues.
