Song: We Can't Live Forever! Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: We Can't Live Forever!

We all, can't live, forever.
With death, we can't say never.
It all comes down to whether,
We can delay, the final day.
There's no easy grab that suits ya.
We can't predict the future.
The surgeon sews the suture,
While the preacher goes and prays.

We'd hate to be a beggar.
Or submit to abject terror.
But will we admit the error,
Of our ways?
There can be, no real, dispute here,
With our symptoms of acute fear;
We feel ourselves - the victims,
Of some modern mystery play.

We all, can't live, forever.
Like some lord of cool in leather.
An icon of the underworld,
And the nearer regions nether.
Will we withstand the pressure,
Of the constant crush of weather.
The cyclones and the fires unfurled,
As across the land, they're fanned, uncurled.

So they can't go on, forever.
Neglecting hearth and heather.
We need the greening legions,
To step up to the fray.
They can't go on whatever,
As straw men in the thresher.
Planting seeds of doubt like cheshire
Cats, smiling at their prey.

They can't go on with pleasure,
If they have no time, in leisure,
To assess what's lost in measure.
To count the cost in treasure.
As the sirocco and the zephyr,
Must slow their themes, allay,
And hold their schemes at bay.
Must blow their dreams away.

We can't, live on, forever.
We've no magic wand or lever.
Our hearts are in a tremor,
As our minds have gone astray.
We may, not be, too clever,
When we rave and rant and blather,
With ancient tropes whenever,
They keep us in their sway.

We all, can't live, forever.
When our mortal coil is severed.
With our anchor rope untethered,
And our temporal hope betrayed.
So despite acclaimed endeavour,
We all must pull together.
For defiance and science is better,
Than simply giving way.
