Songs Of Wives-01: Draupadi-04-The First Husband Poem by Subhas Chandra Chakra

Songs Of Wives-01: Draupadi-04-The First Husband

Rating: 5.0

King Yudhisthira,

The eldest of Pandavas-

You were the first

The first to wed me,

The first to woo me

into ways of conjugation,

The first to show me my Dharma,

My ways of wifehood

My moments of conjugal pleasure

shone with the Sun that was you,

of all my husbands

you were-

the softest at heart,

the love off your heart flowed

to my barren virgin soul

that made me wet with

all the sweet fragrances

of the world around.

Till that moment of conjugation

in that hour of that first night

I felt life -

a great riddle,

Puzzles drove me dizzy,

Questions numerous

made me crazy,

My breath was beyond

my control, like my wears

both outer and inner-

of my body, mind and soul.

I was a timid girl of sixteen

till I met you,

and till your arms

made me feel comfortable

and a friend at bay.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The five great wishes of Draupadi were granted, but it was not an easy life for the great queen to carry on with these boons granted to her. The life she went on with was at times bitterer than hell and at some other times an abode in heaven. Every moment she lived was more than the hardest test on the Earth.
She had to marry Yudhisthira as her first husband in stead of Aryun, the third Pandava who won her in the Swayamvar, where she had garlanded her.
