Souls Poem by Rachel Brewer

Souls

The souls of the innocent cry out to me,
They beg me to save them from their plight.
But how can I do it? All on my own?
Alone, on this dark dreary night.

Their piercing screams kill me inside,
I wish they would all go away.
But I know I can never ignore their calls,
Imaging the price they would pay.

I fight for them day and night,
But nothing ever seems to be enough.
This war with the dead doesn’t seem to end,
And it is becoming much more rough.

Their souls are damaged and lost forever,
And I’m the only one to give them a second chance.
But what happens when their demonic tormentors,
Bother to give me a glance?

Saving their souls means risking mine,
But that is a price I will have to pay.
Because you never know where you’re going to end up,
I could be one of them, someday.
