Standing Here Still - Poem by Gordon Jerome

Hey world it’s me
Take a good look and see
I’m still standing no thanks to you
I’ve taken what you’ve given
And I keep right on livin
Seems somehow I always pull thru

You’ve built me up then tore me down
Replaced my smile with a frown
So many times I quit keeping track
So do to me what you will
But my spirit you’ll never kill
Out of defiance I will always bounce back

I am a strong willed man
Surviving this life best I can
I neither expect nor ask mercy from you
So break my heart and steal my health
Take my sight and my wealth
I’ll keep on doing what I need to do

For deep inside I’m still me
And that’s what you fail to see
Like a mighty oak I’ll never break to your will
So keep on knocking me down
And I’ll find a smile to replace each frown
For when all is done I’ll be standing here still.
“closing thought”
Do not surrender to the hardships that life throws your way
Keep faith in the knowledge that there will come a better day
