Starry Remainders Poem by Harley White

Starry Remainders

Rating: 5.0

Remains of stars adorn the sky
with nebulae aglow on high
in stunning patterns that romance
the wondering stargazer's glance
or simply senses mystify.

While stellar orbs are born and die,
do heavens strum a lullaby
as all around the cosmos dance
remains of stars?

Might there be heard celestial sigh
when Man seems deaf to wisdom's cry
and Mother Nature looks askance?
Will humans waken from their trance?
For in our earthly beings lie
remains of stars.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
"We are star stuff which has taken its destiny into its own hands."
~ Carl Sagan, Cosmos

The poem is a rondeau ~ a short poem of fixed form, consisting of 13 lines (plus the phrase twice)on two rhymes and having the opening words or phrase used in two places as an unrhymed refrain.

About this image ~ The object, called NGC 2371, is a planetary nebula, the glowing remains of a Sun-like star. The remnant star visible at the center of NGC 2371 is the super-hot core of the former red giant, now stripped of its outer layers. Its surface temperature is a scorching 240,000 degrees Fahrenheit. NGC 2371 lies about 4,300 light-years away in the constellation Gemini… 10 years ago, Hubble shared this beautiful image of the planetary nebula NGC 2371, the remains of a Sun-like star, glowing with ultraviolet light. Hubble can see ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light. Its partner telescope that launches next year, the James Webb Space Telescope, will see even farther in the infrared portion of the light spectrum, sharpening our view and understanding of the universe.
