Stay Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

Stay

There is a silence between us,
thick as fog,
pressing against words
that cannot find their way.

Your eyes no longer rest on me
like they used to,
but drift,
looking for something I cannot see.

Every step you take feels farther,
your hands colder when they touch.
I wonder if it's the distance
or the weight of what we've become.

The air is heavy with unspoken truths,
with the ache of what we might lose.
I am holding on to a thread,
fraying, trembeling,
pleading with it not to break.

And yet,
a small part of me waits
to see if you will turn,
if you will choose to stay
before the silence becomes
all there is.
