Subservience Poem by soren Barrett

Subservience

As a social animal we must have a leader
We only acknowledge as heads those we fear or love
It seems that our soul is a bleeder
No way to stop hemorrhaging, a need for approval from above

A commander can be a teacher or a parent
Authority can be a dictator or a god
Superiors can make sense or be logically errant
Idols can be dressed in a holy shroud or hobnail boots shod

We do whatever we are told to do
We follow our shepherd's voice like sheep
Those that stand up for what's right are few
Our morals have been a long time asleep

On tempestuous seas we sail
Without a lighthouse we are lost
We will drown if we fail
Like moths, we follow any light, no matter the cost
