Suffering From Anguish Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Suffering From Anguish

Experiences to have and live them,
Does not make it easier...
To avoid the nonsense.
And the foolishness many choose to accept.

Life to live,
Making mistakes and obstacles to face.
Seems more to become appreciated.
When one awakens to realize,
Challenges are like tests to pass.
From one to another.
Done to perform some unknown task.
Adding to what some may call,
Wisdom to obtain.

And yet,
This wisdom to obtain...
Seldom comes with it done,
Without some suffering and pain.
Or attempts to avoid,
The ups and downs of an emotional ride.
To pretend of having experiences to live them.
Heard to hear by others to share.
Although not a word is mentioned...
About how one achieved the ability to forgive.

"So...
You are saying,
Your wisdom had been achieved through forgiveness? "

Well...
Yes and no.
I would say...
Recognizing my own ignorance came first.
Then very slowly and difficult it was,
To forgive myself for stupid decisions I made.

"Oh?
And why do you stare at me when you say that? "

I don't know.
For whatever the reason,
You remind me of denial.

"I'm not in denial! "

Yeah, I know.
Slow is the process to recognize it.
For years denial and I had been close friends.
When it died I spent months,
Suffering from anguish.
