'Super Nanny' Poem by Linda Winchell

'Super Nanny'

I've been watching a show called, 'The Super Nanny'
I can't believe how these children and parents act!
They scream out all kinds of profanities
and they bite, scream, kick and slap!

I guess things have really changed a lot
not for the better I must say!
I know I wouldn't have gotten away with anything!
back in my childhood or adolescent days!

If I looked at my Mother sideways
as if to question what she had said.
I would have gotten a punishment
and be sent to my room without being fed.

What happened to a childs respect?
of what or who has the parental authority?
Why have these parents let down their guard?
It is something our children need feel and be.

Now we have this Super Nanny show
in order to show us how we should live.
It's really sad that we've let it come to this
not being a true parental figure to our kids.

i agree so much.... im only 15, but i was raised the traditional way and as i look around and see all these kids who have no respect for their elders whether it be a parent, teacher, or stranger, i see one thing in common with all of them they weren't punished because their parents were told its wrong to punish their children.... and while there is a line you should never cross, a believe that with these common laws about no speaking rudely to your child or touching them even if its just grabbing their arm, its giving more respect to these children than they ultimately deserve and giving them the i dea that everyone should respect them no matter what....
