Supposed Citadel: A Glance Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

Supposed Citadel: A Glance

A glance at citadel of learning
The dilapidated shanties
Crinkle beds and mattresses flat breast
Abode of intelligent refugees.

The rats have jolly days
Maggots dance in stinky sinks
The mosquitoes feed fat
On young students eager to learn.

The baking taps dry the cups
The blinking light blind the eyes
The licking roofs bath the flesh
As determined inmates trudge on

Halls of learning are barren of seats and tables
For inmates inly traumatized in ritualistic traipse
Through the compulsory needle's eye
In search of laurels

A glance at the citadel of learning
Beheld the resonant ruins
The abomination of a riverine
Washing his hands with spittle
