Surrendering The Dream Poem by Matthew Holloway

Surrendering The Dream

Surrendering the dream
of love and success
of future promise
belief wilted and died
and reality became known
and all the years ahead
listed alone, accepted
unappreciated, misunderstood
never known for that truth
of spirit, mind and soul
forever to be the elusive gold
none the richer, none the poorer
a statuesque practitioner
motions, days, words, actions
carried through without fuss
on triumph march alike Caesar
no thorny crown atop a head
but the ides of March beckon
all debts to be collected
