Survivors Guilt Poem by Matthew Holloway

Survivors Guilt

Survivors guilt
~
We remain where you once stood
Upon this mortal soiled earth
It is in a hope and a prayer
That we remember what you taught
The joy that is the life we have
The beauty that is in the air we breathe
All the mistakes we will make
The laughter we are yet to share
Is part of the life experience
We may have different tastes
Or different views on things
Neither of us are wrong
I remember you alluded to strength
The belief in the heart and mind
How a good friend will stand
And how we all should stand as well
There is no reason I can find
Why I remain where you have gone
Now when I complain
About all of those little nothing things
Which you seemed to brush aside
I guess I’ll be left feeling
Survivors guilt
