Tagging During Internship Poem by Daya Nandan

Tagging During Internship

I feel that tagging during internship does not teach much,
As the chronic fatigue makes us lose our intellectual touch,
Working from 7 am to 10 pm cuts your study time,
Weakens the mind and the body to a state where you are not fine,

How can one pass the tagging assessment if they are always tired,
Chronic fatigue lasting days while always being fired,
Newcomers need equal work time not extra work,
They need more time for theory not extra patients to clerk,

Longer working hours will not accelerate their learning process,
It will just overwork them and cause them more stress,
I cannot believe this system is still in use today,
Honestly, i have no words to say,

They can learn on normal working hours with less exhaustion,
There is no need to burden the young doctors of our nation,
I feel that tagging does more harm than benefit to our juniors.
And the ones that should step up here should be the seniors,

Working 16 hours a day for weeks is just insanity,
With one day off a week, that is the intern's reality,
The price paid forcing interns to work with all it takes,
Is predisposing our patients to preventable mistakes!
