Take It Poem by Paul Jonathan Stertz

Take It

So this is war, not what I expected, we try to build it back up cause someone wrecked it
Erect it, a new society, not sure what that's got to do with me
I don’t even know your names, but I see your faces, people
Living in these places, spaces cut off from reason, Season after season
Don't even know what you’re living for, someone erased it
The traces of humanity, I see it in your faces
We come over here to occupy and maybe die, and leave our blood in your mud
And hope that you won’t waste it
To try to help you taste…an idea, a new way of life for you if you embrace it
Break and shake the chains of slavery and hatred
We once were like you too, we lived in tyranny, but we decided to be free
Take it, friends you’re just like me inside so try to make it
A democracy, you too are free like me, admit it to yourself because deep down you know this
So go with it, don’t blow this…
