Tanka 4 Poem by Savita Tyagi

Tanka 4

Rating: 5.0

Neighbor's grape vine
Sans grapes upon my fence.
Kids visiting less
To splash in grandpa's pool.
Spiders reside in tree house.

Hi Savita, Among the figures of speech (Alankaara) in Sanskrit poetry, there is one alankara called Roopaka Atishayokti- This one is the method of actually speaking about something, without mentioning a word on it in the poem. (In Sanskrit the method is called 'Nigeeryadhyavasaanam') . This is what you have done in this poem. You have not mentioned a word about Old Age in the poem. But, 'the vines sans grapes', 'kids visiting less' and 'spiders reside in tree house' just speaks out volumes on the state of 'old age'. Great Work. Loved reading. Thank you for sharing.
