Terrible Taliban Poem by Daya Nandan

Terrible Taliban

An entire country is now under the control of the Taliban,
A terrifying reality that strikes fear in every regular Afghan,
The Taliban barred girls from school and women from work in the past,
They still kill innocent civilians with each merciless bullet and rocket blast,

They have bombed schools and have taken so many lives,
Forced underage girls to marry militants to make them wives,
Now they rule one of the poorest countries in the world,
Mercilessly abusing power while harassing each woman and girl,

Carrying out door-to-door manhunts to kill people on their target list,
While murdering protestors to show that they rule with an iron fist,
Most are fleeing desperately with their families from their homeland,
For they know that only destruction will come from the Taliban's hand,

Some even cling to the tires of airplanes as the planes start to fly,
While mothers and children imagine their future as they start to cry,
Their homeland is under a harsh terrorist regime imposed by force,
As their currency plummets and families are without an income source,

Billions of dollars of financial reserves and financial aid are now frozen,
As people starve to death because of the path the Taliban has chosen,
Chronic warfare has caused so much mayhem in this war torn land,
Unforgivable torture that only the surviving victims can truly understand,

A refugee crisis begins as countries try to help while fighting the COVID-19 crisis,
While many fear that Afghanistan will become a safe haven for groups like ISIS,
Poverty, abuse coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic is a terrible twist of fate,
As Afghanistan now descends to the mercy of the Taliban that we hate,
