That Look Poem by Eric Cockrell

That Look

a young man
walking down the street...
stopped to talk.

out of work roofer
for a coupla years...
doing odd jobs

when he can...
trying to raise
three small children

on about $300 a month,
and food stamps...
he had that look,

you know, that look,
that gonna get shot
crawling in somebody's window...

trying to steal something
to keep them kids a going...
look...

you know that look!

That look breeds like wild fire.... and we want to turn our heads....don't want to look at the paraplegic......don't want to see something so hard as a certain look We turn our heads the other way far to often.....We need to look more into the eyes to really see.......................... Jim Troy
