The Anatomy Of Freedom Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

The Anatomy Of Freedom

Freedom is not in song
Freedom is not in dance
Freedom comes not from demonstrations
Neither is freedom born of anger, looting and burning
Guns, bombs and bullets bear no freedom
But bloodshed and strife breed hate and vengeance

Liberty is not just an academic cliché
Liberty is not an opinion either
Liberty is not an ideology
Liberty is not a textbook philosophy
Neither is it a creature of statute
Nor a result of royal decrees

I have come to understand that self-determination is but a fallacy
And that every national struggle has many facets
Therefore autonomy bears no defined colours
But with jingles and semantics, we have been fobbed off with freedom
For the elites always have the narrative
Whether by the bullet or by the flawed electoral system, they always rule
