The Ballad Of Narrow Escape (Final Version)

this morning's moon is still in the sky
oh what shall I do for it, father said I
what ill will befall
what doomsday is here
and I with a wedding dress
made out of fear
or Christmas is coming again this year
in a far off country away from here
father my father
and dear
what is the portent where is the trail
that I may traverse it
should all else fail
the map to decipher
the clue in the case
the jewel in the offing
the whole human race
the moon of this morning is still in the sky
but this was a dream
not a real cause to fly
to flee and to float
to cross not the moat
to abandon the silver
and hide, in the reeds.
