The Beauty Of Water Poem by Etienne Charilaou

The Beauty Of Water

Transparent quicksilver
poured from a jug.

Two hydrogen atoms
join one oxygen atom
in a molecule of water.
Trillions of molecules
dance in every droplet.

Water is...

Indescribable in beauty;
gaze on rivers, lakes and oceans - the varying hues of blue;
or feel when you bathe or swim, almost weightless as an astronaut,
water's smooth caress.

Hear the raindrops gently tapping the leaves;
or the roar of water rushing over the falls.

Snow crystals are distinct tiny hexagonal masterpieces.
Steam chaotically meanders and coils from a hot cup or kettle.
Emanations of this kind cause clouds in our skies.

Water is the elixir of those who thirst.
Safe and supremely comfortable in the womb a baby grows.
Ecstatically speeding along a curling wave a surfer furrows.

Pure, innocent and lowly
though water is, there is
another aspect found in
hailstones and floods,
icebergs and tsunamis.

Comets crashing into primordial Earth slowly swelled into oceans.

Water begets the only life we know.
The two princely moons, Europa and Enceladus,
both have underground oceans.
There life may swim or cling to volcanic vents.

And if life is there
it may be elsewhere.

We may not be alone
in the unfathomable Cosmos.
