The Belarusian Special Forces Write A Letter Poem by Gert Strydom

Officers of the 5th Special Forces Brigade
have written to president Lukashenka a letter.
In their country Russia makes its war fetter,
they do on an answer from the president wait,

they do Belarusian involvement in the war hate,
to stay out of the Ukraine war will be better,
where it does the Russian forces to bits tatter
and with their lives they will Belarus aid,

they do not want to fight against the Ukraine,
do not want the sovereignty of Belarus to end,
do not want needless loss of limbs and life,
and being made a rogue state will nothing gain,
they do not want Putin Belarus to bend,
where they do for the best of Belarus strive.

I have come across a publication
by the Ukrainian journalist Dimitry Gordon that have lead to this poem. The letter was signed by the officers of the 5th Special Forces Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, by the colonel, by lieutenant colonels, including the majors where along with the servicemen of the unit they asked that Belarus be kept out of the Russian war in the Ukraine. The Brigade Commander did not sign the letter.]
