The Black And White War Poem by Ramona Thompson

The Black And White War

Rating: 5.0

It ain't over by a long shot, folks
Not that easy or that fast
To erase decades of hate and resentment
I think we all know that
We just don't wanna be the first to admit it
Try so hard to ignore it
Submerge it
Beneath layers of lies and pretty wrapping
All too soon
You'll find its not that easy to do

Perfection
As if in this world
In our lifetime
Any of us will ever know any such thing
We may have made many advances throughout our history
We may now even have a black man in the highest office in the land
Still none of that means that there will be a ceasefire
On either side
Both too darn proud and stubborn to admit
One or both sides may just be wrong

Tears will be shed
Both good men and bad will fall
Does it mean we should quit fighting?
Give up on ever finding ourselves one day
Standing side by side as equals
Maybe
Maybe not
It is not for this author to say
It is up to you readers to decide
In the end how will you treat your fellow man?
Color first or will you look deeper?
Only you can say
