The Brave Dead Does Not Hear Poem by Francis Duggan

The Brave Dead Does Not Hear

There must be bloodshed, suffering and death for a war to be won
And the wife or partner, siblings and parents grieve for the dead soldier hero one
Who died in the bloody battle where the gunfire was loud
Of how brave he died of no consolation to them though he done his Country proud
Today the patriots on the sidewalks their flags and banners wave
At the big street war parade to welcome home the living brave
But the young dead war hero in the cemetery near
The bands and the loud cheering of the crowd does not hear
Those who celebrate dead war heroes the great gift of life are denying
Since life should be about living and not about dying
And though honor to the brave dead is only their due
That life is the greatest human gift happens to be true
A huge welcome for the young war heroes in town today
But the brave dead does not hear though nearby he does lay.
