The Conscience Feared Poem by Dakota Ellerton

The Conscience Feared

Like my conscience
you whisper to me
the only voice I listen to
only you can make me walk away
only you can save this life
I will not debate with you
I cannot stand to argue
just listen when I say I'm sorry
don't tell me not to
tell me you're on your way
only you know where I'd be
I regret not holding you closer
or telling you the truth
I could feel your cheek brush against my face
your breath on my neck
I walked to the noose
and let myself hang
