The Copper Horse Poem by T.L. Toadvine

The Copper Horse

Rating: 5.0

I lived in the spirit world, for years
where the days had no name
walking a path into a timeless realm

I tried to explain how the Copper Horse
would turn to fire at sunset
but no one listened
so I held that magic, alone

I saw the history of the world unfold before me
in one emerald green field of spring
I cursed the insanity
marveled at the wondrous beauty passing before my eyes

I became immortal
under the stars that beckoned to me at night
they understood
while the world slept in oblivion

As seconds became lifetimes
truth was the air in my lungs
the poison, beneath my feet
and I walked on

Sunset would again come around
turning the Copper Horse into fire once more
a tear would appear
a bird would fly
it was all too beautiful
the moment at hand
