The Curfew Poem by Somanathan Iyer

The Curfew

showering heat through his rays
dazzling was the sun up in the sky
down on earth locked in homes
men and women engrossed in fear
witnessed their place war like riots
victimized everyone by devilish vandalism
half burnt trees on either side of road
stood witness to the gruesome riots
demolished homes burnt vehicles
scattered stones stains of blood
speak out the gory in silent agony
deserted are the roads
brimmed with activity
closed are the markets and malls
that were colorful and courteous
imposed is the curfew immobilizing all
prevalent in the air is an uneasy calm
gun totting guards with hawkish looks
guarding the roads in at most rapt
sounding sirens and breaking the silence
now and then roamed only police vehicles
life in captivity estranged every life
except for a few troubled are all the rest
with piercing pain struggling are bed ridden
answered by no one in alleviating their pain
infants and old haunted by hunger
swooned and slept with nothing for succor
with fingers crossed and patience tossed
suffering everyone for acts of someone
one evil mind spewed out the venom
another evil mind countered with more venom
some more evil minds spread it with blood stain
more and more evil minds joined the fray
leaving the civilized gasping for breath!
