The Dead Cannot Smell The Flowers Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

The Dead Cannot Smell The Flowers

Candles and flowers laid for the silent dead,
Perhaps to make up for the words unsaid?
A time of the year when the living remember
Those who've gone before us to eternal slumber.

The candles will melt like prayers said too late,
For at death, Judgment's passed, that's a written fate.
The dead cannot smell the flowers that are laid,
It's for the living, their way to erase mistakes made.

It is while we are here, alive and still breathing,
That all the love and the time we should be giving
To all those we love, while they can still hear -
While they can still feel it, the ones we hold dear.

As a sympathetic jester, flowers are for the loved ones who remain, to speak out that we loved the departed one also, not as a guilt offering.

Thank you for reading my poem, Bill Cantrell. Flowers laid on the grave of the departed to speak out that we loved them? ? ? Precisely what the poem is saying - the dead cannot smell the flowers and they cannot hear what love you are trying to express, perhaps to tell people around that you loved them (which does not really matter.)

The candles will melt like prayers said too late. Flowers lose fragrance and life melts more. An amazing poem is shared.10
