The Dead Love Bird Poem by Monti Chaudhury

The Dead Love Bird

Rating: 5.0

I am a dead bird
Buried deep in the ground having my eternal sleep.
I am resting in peace
And smelling aroma of soil,
blanketing my carcass.
I can see my soul leaving my mortal form,
Bidding me adieu
And making its journey to another world.
I can smell the sweet scent of rose petals,
Which lie unwithered on my Grave.
I can hear the murmurings of my friends
Lamenting my death.
I can see the flowers in the garden,
Shedding drops of tears on my resting place.
I can hear my master wailing and mourning,
And other members discussing the cause of my sudden death.
Oh! How much I was loved by all
How blessed I was to have them in my life!

But alas! what a strange thing my eyes witness
When everyone is moaning over my death, discussing about me,
I see no reverberation inside the cage I lived,
That abode where I passed my golden days
With my beloved, my enchantress.
Why is she looking so calm and quiet,
Staring with cold and static eyes?
Her eyes are wide open praying helplessly,
Hoping for some magic to happen suddenly.
The luster in her eyes are all gone,
Her mesmerizing looks are now converted to looks ofpity and sorrow,
Somehow bearing the pain of loss.
Her lifeless eyes are whispering to me-
Oh, dear!
I'm alive but a dead in the crowd,
I'm yelling in pain but there is no sound,
I'm bursting out but my tears are not coming out.

Oh, my beloved!
I can feel your pain.
I wish I could go back and tickle your neck,
And groom your lovely feathers with my beak!
I wish I could cuddle you up against my breast,
And feel your countless breath.
I wish again on a bright sunny morn,
We could take sun bath in our heavenly cage.
I wish I could enjoy the cool breeze with you,
Hum a tune, merrily dance and freeze that stage.
I wish I could kiss you on your forehead
And gift you the divine pleasure on earth.
I wish I could go back to you,
And love you the most, my love.

Your heart is weeping and melting like an ice.
But your eyes are veiling your pain by keeping themselves dry.
No, my sweetheart
You cannot give up,
You have to fight back and carry on your life.
You cannot stop breathing,
You cannot stop loving,
You cannot lose your Pride.

I am sorry, my damsel.
I didn't want to break your heart
Or leave you alone and depart.
It was my fate which I couldn't avoid,
But I promise to unite with you
When your soul takes a flight.
I promise to wait for you my love,
Till my soul takes another birth.
Our love shall remain immortal
And be a paragon for those paramours,
Who yearn, not for fleshly love
But seek pleasure in divine harmony of souls.
