The Democrats Poem by Amudipe Opeyemi Marcus

The Democrats

Rating: 5.0

Awo! I know, Zik! ! ! , he is of great memory
Founding fathers of our legacies
Fathers at home, warlords in battlefield
Greats! ! ! Long gone to the world beyond
A name they have built in their time
A name it is, not for themselves
But for the world they live in

Call them a very big IROKO TREE
And i will call them ELEPHANTS
Like the IROKO TREE they were unshakeable
Even to their roots, they held on to their stems
ELEPHANTS they were, for they ruled their world
We heard their voices, the whole world shook to its very root
DEMOCRACY they gave us, a new lease of life
Be it BLACK, be it WHITE
Our own we can call our own

Here you come 21st century man
Self acclaimed offspring of our greats
The podium in the marketplace you will always mount
That you might be heard, do you really need all this?
From the cubicle of our greats, we heard them speak
Even in their bedrooms their voices soar high
Leaders your tags says, CHEATERS your actions speaks
Leaving the question, Which is Which?

A lion I know will always begets a lion
While an Elephants will never begets a Tortoise
This i s life, it can never be changed, Never! ! !
Democracy it is, you are free to choose your name
Same applies to us, We are free to give our mandate
Not to the tags bearers, But the true sons of our greats
The Democrats! ! !
