The Dentist Poem by Daya Nandan

The Dentist

Her cousins wore elegant dresses of the finest kind,
While she could only dress plain with issues of money on her mind,
Her friends went on vacations to exotic places,
While she watched their photos from the book of faces,

I must make it out of this average life she thought,
I must get more than what i have got,
Her career choice uncertain,
Yet she hides it all behind the curtain,

Financial strain was the main problem here,
Money had to be carefully spent to save up for each year,
So she studied hard in hopes for a chance,
To bring her dreams up and take it for a dance,

Alas, her efforts were fruitful enough,
For her to get a scholarship to make her smile and laugh,
Though some girls in her university were mean because she dressed simple,
The kind of girls that would be dramatic once they get a pimple,

But she stood her ground and studied to unleash her strength within,
Ignoring the insults of people obsessed with appearance of the outer skin,
She is a professional in her field that makes people smile, .
She proved that her efforts were truly worthwhile,

A healthcare professional in our motherland,
Truly skillful and swift with each end,
Against all odds that were placed on her,
She made it and now she will get much further.
