The Discoverer Of Words Poem by Dónall Dempsey

The Discoverer Of Words

“Meniscus!
Hibiscus! ”
He chanted
again & again

when he was seven
delighted to discover
such words
words such as these!

Magic!
Sheer magic!
Meanwhile
pretending he’s a magician

he replaces the usual
hocus-pocus of abracadabra
with these
new discoveries.

Now, if only
he knew
what they mean?
