The Fire Within Poem by Thea Pound

The Fire Within

Here there burns a fire,
That cannot be tamed,
There's far too much repressed,
That dances in the flames;
It's a glimpse of my heart,
Wild and uncontained,
No force that I have known,
Could ever keep it framed.

These here eyes are hollow,
Within them is no light,
And if you gazed too deeply,
You'd be frozen by the sight;
The fire there is buried,
To hide its blazing might,
Lest somebody see the fury,
Lest somebody feel its bite.

Here there is a warning,
Ahead, a hazard lies;
Do not step any closer,
Dare not cross the lines;
Though your feelings reach me,
You couldn't handle mine,
For your own protection,
I hope you heed the signs.

Here within is Armageddon,
Where what was dead awakes,
Now icy and yet seething,
My resignation breaks;
And as the void begins to fill,
I hope that you can take,
The beast that you have freed,
And understand what is at stake.
