The Food Of Love Poem by Dónall Dempsey

The Food Of Love

Rating: 5.0

You dip your finger
in my beer

then dab up chunky crushed
peppercorns

on a delicious
fingertip

compel me to:
“Lick! ”

I lick your fingertip
lapping with my tongue

the angry fire
the peppercorns

set ablaze
on my tongue

you pepper me
with kiss after kiss

hot &
urgent

feed me
one by one wild mushrooms

tenderly

with comfit baby onions
drizzled with truffle oil

tell me
(sotto voce)
you want to

give me a baby.

Whisper in my ear:
“Feed me...feed me! ”

Your tongue
curls around

my fingers
greedy for thin slices of... raisin bread... Spanish cheeses & apple.
