THE GOOD-BYE Poem by Davide Rondoni

THE GOOD-BYE

Then the heart becomes silent
and all the clamouring, the surprised
faintings, and these birds wild
and sweetened by words fold
their wings -

and remain looking at you, once again
motionless on the branches of the heart
they watch with little animal eyes
away that going of yours

but at your good-bye, the last, equal wonder
you offer with your face on your shoulder perfect
they would be again ready to rise
raise hell, shriek
