The Help Attempt Poem by Cameron Gallant

The Help Attempt

Crow Crow
The rooster crowed
The land was sowed
And I was showed

Ting ting
The spoon hit tin
It’s time for din
And we went in

Zzz zzz
They fell asleep
Their sleep was deep
And I saw sheep

Creak creak
But I got up
I’d do some work
With any luck

Sow sow
I sowed the fields
From what they showed
I goed I goed

Wake wake
Then they woke up
They saw me sow
And time was up

Yay yay
They will come down
They’ll thank my work
Like I’m the crown

Wretch wretch
My mother shriek
You ruined it
While we all sleeped

Woosh woosh
Come fathers belt
I knew I’d sowed
Wrong, this I felt

Dug Dug
I had dug up
The seeds they’d sowed
And made it tough

Wah wah
‘Look at the yard’
My sister cried
And we’ll all starve
