The Hero Without Scars Poem by Dellas Chitekwe

The Hero Without Scars

Father, when did you become a hero?
How did you become a hero?
When the war flared up
You boarded the first plane to Europe.

Where were you, father?
When our mothers and sisters were violated
In broad daylight
Did you see, father?
The thousands
Who were left lying in marshes and trenches —
Forever dead
For the sake of freedom.

Father, do not fantasise war
Those who saw it felt it.

thanx for reading my poem. things are actually worse now. i think we are officially a failed state. but i feel that we are complicit in our suffering because we hv allowed the current regime to screw up th country whilst we silently suffer.

It's very interesting reading this, Simbarashe. It must have been terrible. I was born and grew up in Zimbabwe, but had left by that time. How is it nowadays?
