The Iguana Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Iguana

between me and the city
is a glass window with drops of
rain

below me are tiny taxicabs
waiting for passengers

at the other end is the red planet
and elizabeth

outside do not imagine the noise
of the city
keep the peace and quiet inside
the room of your heart

meanwhile i still remember you
somehow the fear keeps its howling
sound somewhere in the desert the
iguana is calling

i remember the moon, i miss the stars
and the softness of the sands from the
warmth of your hands
